As we enter the winter season once again we can expect cold winds, frost and icy showers. These are all tough on our skin, leading to chapped lips, dry hands and feet along with and dry skin on your face. There is nothing you can do about the weather but the old saying ‘prevention is better than cure’ is a good place to start. So, banish the effects of dry skin in winter with some simple easy to do tips. Our spa therapists are here to help you look and feel fabulous throughout this festive season.
Use Luke Warm Water
We know it is tempting to have a hot shower on these cold days but hot water washes away the oils from your skin. Instead, use luke-warm water when showering and cleansing your face. Luke-warm waters help maintains some of your skins natural oils.
Immediately after bathing or cleansing use a good oil based moisturiser for your skin. It ensures your skin has that extra barrier of protection during the cold season. And it gives a nice glow to your skin. PHYTOMER CHRISTMAS HYDRATION GIFT SET
Sunscreen might sound like a funny tip but sunscreen is as much necessary in hot weather as it is in cold. Frost and snow reflect sunlight and thus increase the aging effects of the sun on your skin. So, use at least SPF 30 in the winter. Apply more than once a day if you are lucky enough to take a ski trip.
Use a Humidifier
During the winter, we tend to crank up the heat. Plus, we are more likely to move from hot to cold when we are out and about.
Dry skin is just one reason that experts recommend using a humidifier, a device that emits water into the air to increase moisture levels (humidity) in your home or office. Institutes of Health recommend the use of humidifiers to help relieve congestion from the common cold, flu, and sinus infections. And humidifiers can also help alleviate the symptoms of dry eyes, eczema, itchy skin, dry nasal passages, cracked lips, and nose bleeds due to dry air, allergies, or asthma.
Keeping hydrated may seem obvious but when you are busy, rushing around and trying to organise your day; you might not drink enough water to keep hydrated. So, avoid dull looking skin and drinking water to keep a fresh complexion.
If the winter winds can’t touch your skin it can’t damage it. So, when you are outside in cold weather wrap up. Invest in a stylish hat, scarf and gloves set and look fabulous despite the wintry chill.
Look and Feel Amazing
It can be hard to face into the winter. We all know how the darker, shorter, colder days sometimes feel tough to get through. But remember, it doesn’t have to be all doom and gloom. Taking these six tips will have you feeling good again. When we do little things to take care of ourselves, it does impact on how we face the everyday. So, treat yourself or someone else to something special and let them glow this festive season.
