An Unforgettable Summer Break at Hodson Bay Hotel

Summer is a time for fun, adventure and spending time together making memories that will last a lifetime. At Ireland’s largest lakeside resort you’ll find everything you need for an unforgettable summer break!

Family Holidays
At Hodson Bay Hotel we’ve been making family holiday dreams come true for over twenty years because we take having fun very seriously! This year we talked to loads of children about what they would like to do on their holidays and the result is our new and improved Kids Adventure Club. It’s bigger, better and (most importantly!) cooler with more toys, games and activities than ever before. Highlights include cookery school, arts and crafts, themed food nights, bookworm corner and a sensory zone for children who need a quiet place to relax. Outside of Kids Adventure Club the whole family can enjoy the Bay View Diner, a brand-new dining experience designed to satisfy the most discerning little eaters.

Adult Only Escapes
If you’re heading away for a break with a partner or friends, then a room in the deluxe Adults Only Retreat Wing of Hodson Bay Hotel is the perfect choice. An upgrade to a lakeview room is a must to take full advantage of the picturesque views over Lough Ree. Our Retreat Wing is also home to The Spa at Hodson Bay, Ireland’s newest and finest Elemis spa. With its pristine thermal suite, calming treatment rooms and expert team of therapists, a trip to The Spa at Hodson Bay is truly an escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. No stay would be complete without a visit to the Leisure Centre with its fully equipped gym, large swimming pool, hydropool, airbeds and individual massage jets. The hotel hosts regular complimentary Aqua Aerobics and Yoga classes.

World-class Food & Drink
Let’s face it, one of the major joys of being on holiday is indulging is delicious food and drinks. Thanks to the unwavering commitment of our Head Chef John Burke and his team to supporting local farmers and suppliers and using the freshest, local produce, eating at Hodson Bay Hotel is a real treat whether you opt for a casual bite in The Waterfront Bar or a fine dining experience in L’Escale Restaurant. Please the senses a little more at one of our complimentary wine and cheese appreciation evenings hosted weekly by our resident sommelier Andrzej Dasiak. Andrzej was recently named one of Ireland’s Top 3 Sommeliers by the Irish Guild of Sommeliers. And don’t worry, if wine and cheese isn’t your thing there’s also regular whiskey and craft beer tastings to tempt your taste buds.

Resort Activities
Step outside the hotel’s doors and a myriad of activities await from a scenic stroll along the new Bay Promenade, to a round of golf at the adjoining Athlone Golf Course or, to really get the adrenalin pumping, you can’t beat an afternoon at Baysports. For the uninitiated Baysports is home to Ireland’s largest inflatable waterpark (bouncy castles in the water as most children describe it!) and this summer they introduced a jaw-dropping new slide which holds the Guinness® World Record for the world’s tallest inflatable waterslide. There’s also kayaking, stand-up paddle boarding and pedal boats to try so there’s no excuse not to have a splashing good time.

Exploring the Area
After a few days at Ireland’s Largest Lakeside Resort you may be ready to explore some more of what Athlone and the Hidden Heartlands has to offer. Join Viking Mike, Captain of the Viking Boat for a cruise starting at the dock at Hodson Bay and travelling across Lough Ree to Clonmacnoise or into the centre of Athlone’s Latin Quarter where you alight at the foot of the stunning 13th century Athlone Castle. Alternatively you can grab one of the Hodson Bay Hotel’s local attraction booklets which will inspire you with places to visit as it lists over twenty of the most popular attractions in the area and, even better, contains discounts that are exclusively available to Hodson Bay guests.
