Lough Ree – The Heart of the River Shannon
Lough Ree with its silver crested waters and peat rich waters is the central Lake on the River Shannon. It is a great starting point to explore the history, folklore and legends attached to the region! Lough Ree provides an important sanctuary for wildlife. Lough Ree stretched 29 km it begins in Lanesborough, County Longford and flows all the way to Athlone, County Westmeath. It is in three counties – Westmeath, Longford and Roscommon.
